Equip deducts 1 credit per test in the assessment, per candidate. The first credit is deducted when you send the invitation; each remaining credit is deducted only when the candidate starts that test. If a candidate never starts, you can reclaim the invitation credit.

When Credits Are Deducted

An Equip assessment is made up of one or more tests. For example, an assessment with 1 Quiz and 1 Programming Question contains 2 tests, so each candidate who completes it costs 2 credits. To check how many tests an assessment contains:
1

Open the assessment's Settings

Click the Settings link on the assessment.
2

Visit the Test Order tab

The Test Order tab lists every test in the assessment. The number of tests is the number of credits each candidate can consume.
Credits are deducted at these moments: A test counts as started when its questions load for the candidate. The invitation credit is deducted even if the email bounces or is never opened.
If the candidate never starts Test #1, you can reclaim the invitation credit once 24 hours have passed. The net effect: you pay 1 credit for each test a candidate actually starts.

A Worked Example

Say you invite 10 candidates to a 2-test assessment:

Duplicate Invitations

If you try to invite the same candidate to the same assessment twice, Equip warns you first. If you proceed, 2 credits are deducted in total.
Invited someone twice by mistake? The unused invitation’s credit becomes reclaimable 24 hours after it was sent.
Why deduct on invite rather than on start? Equip once saw an account send 50,000 spam invitations. Charging at send time keeps the platform safe for candidates, and the reclaim flow ensures honest recruiters never pay for unused invitations.

Costs by Product

The ATS (job posts, pipeline, resume screening) is free. Credits are only spent on assessments, AI interviews, and a few optional AI actions. 1 credit equals $1 (USD) or ₹95 (INR). AI interview invitations follow the same reclaim rule as assessments: if the candidate never starts, you can reclaim the credits 24 hours after the invitation was sent.
You cannot merge tests to reduce the per-test cost. Programming and SQL tests allow only 1 question per test, and a Quiz is capped at 25 questions with Equip content or 100 with custom content. See Question Limits for details.

Negative Balance Rules

Your balance is allowed to dip slightly below zero so that candidates mid-assessment are never blocked abruptly. There are two thresholds to know: Because the floor is -25 credits, the maximum number of candidates you can invite at any point is your current credit balance plus 25.
Results stay hidden the moment your balance goes negative. If candidates are actively attempting an assessment, top up before the balance crosses 0 so you can review their results without interruption.
Equip emails the Team Admin when the balance drops past 20 credits and again past 5 credits, so you get advance warning before hitting these thresholds. Every deduction is itemized on the Credit Usage page under Account in the sidebar.
